Brent's other verse is a little weird but I saw it as the heros conflict between his will to continue his journey while being intimidated by the mountain. In the Mastodon - The Making of Emperor of Sand documentary, the members discuss the meaning of the album as a metaphor for cancer and the loved ones theyve lost to the disease. The first part references the volcano that erupts as the hero climbs onward towards blood mountain. I think each verse breaks down the story differently.
