With limited sea breeze influence in the inland valleys of Napa and Sonoma counties and the interior of Solano County, the air will continue to warm on Thursday afternoon to the upper 70s to lower 80s. This breeze will eventually arrive in the delta by 2 p.m., keeping daytime temperatures in the lower 70s around Benicia and Vallejo. Cloudy skies will continue the rest of the morning across the delta and in communities along San Pablo Bay before mostly sunny skies develop in the afternoon.ĭaytime highs will rise to the mid-60s in Tiburon, Mill Valley and most of Marin County before the sea breeze shaves off warmer air around 1 p.m. Residents can expect a mix of fog, drizzle and reduced visibility in the inland valleys until sunshine burns it off after 10 a.m. North Bay: A weather whiplash is on tap for residents in the Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Napa valleys Thursday. Evening skies will remain clear before clouds return at night and lows fall to the 50s. Look for daytime highs in the lower 60s on the coast and in the San Bruno Gap - including Daly City, South San Francisco and Millbrae - while mid-60s settle over the rest of the Peninsula. Some of this fog will travel east of Half Moon Bay to the Santa Cruz Mountains, leading to reduced visibility along highways 92 and 84 between the coast and the rest of the bayside of the Peninsula.Įxpect most of the clouds and mist to clear out in favor of sunshine and warmer air Thursday afternoon. Pacific Coast and Peninsula: The marine layer will pour out another round of fog and drizzle along Highway 1 in places like Pacifica, Montara and Moss Beach during the morning hours Thursday. Temperatures will continue to drop in the evening as clouds flow back toward the coast and bay shore. Look for mostly sunny skies and daytime highs in the mid-60s on the west side and upper 60s in downtown, the Mission, the Castro and SoMa.Ī sea breeze will gradually pick up after 2 p.m., reaching gusts of 20 mph and keeping temperatures from reaching 70. Sunshine and warmer, drier air will clear most of the marine clouds out, though a few traces of fog could linger around Twin Peaks, Mount Davidson and Mount Sutro. San Francisco: Cool, misty air off the Pacific Ocean will spill drizzle and fog across the west side Thursday morning while overcast skies persist east of Sutro Tower through noon. Fog lovers will have plenty of time to capture photos of Thursday’s shallow veil of clouds as the marine layer continues to shrink and compress by the weight of this week’s developing ridge. But even then, sunshine will break through, leading to instances where the city’s hillside neighborhoods stay shrouded while sunshine spills into the rest of the city. What’s left of the veil of clouds will keep temperatures closer to the 60s in coastal cities like San Francisco and Half Moon Bay. All the extra sunshine during the day will help raise inland temperatures to the 70s and 80s. This means residents in Napa, Walnut Creek and San Jose will see skies clear out early on Thursday morning.

The compressed marine layer won’t have much oomph, able only to propel its clouds, mist and fog to San Francisco Bay’s immediate shoreline on Thursday. That won’t be the case for inland residents. That’s largely because the water allows the marine layer to easily reel in fog and cool air from the Pacific Ocean. Residents along the immediate coast aren’t going to notice much of a difference in temperatures, humidity or cloud cover on Thursday. Weather models hint that some clouds, fog and wind will persist in pockets of the region that will be enough to support below-average temperatures.
